
The smart/feature phone market is dominated by ARM but Intel wants a piece of the action… in the near future, and now MIPS wants in too. Based on their theory that there is not a big enough difference technically between MIPS and ARM ("They are both viable building blocks for a SoC, which is the final processor solution for all these applications,"-Source) and the fact that Android will give them all the software, apps, and developers they need to compete. Their differentiator? MIPS is working on developing extensions for Android that will support high definition displays.
