Quick history lesson: In December 2007 Asus unleashed the netbook category with the oh so popular original EeePCs netbook series. It turned the humble Intel Atom processor into an overnight sensation. Every OEM and his dog jumped on the category, some sooner, some later. Sony early on realized this was a “race to the bottom” in terms of profit margins for the mobile PC industry and tried to resist, but in the end they succumbed and attempted expensive netbooks.
